History

Vette's history is a complicated and painful story that she keeps to herself, only sharing it with her most trusted companions. This information is not public knowledge.

The story of Vette's birth and a brief history of House Simoneaux's rise and fall.

A recount of Vette's time during the Dragonsong War.

Vette's life from the end of the Dragonsong War to the current day.

History: Beginnings

The elezen known as Olivette Simoneaux was born over a thousand years ago, the daughter of Ser Alistaire Simoneaux and his wife, Prina.Ser Alistaire is where the painful story begins. The young knight served King Thordan in Ishgard's earliest days, before the King's death and the Church's rise to power. Ambitious and well-liked by his peers, Alistaire rose through the ranks quickly, earning many honors for himself and his family. The penultimate of these honors was the rising of his House to a Viscountcy and being chosen to serve on the King's personal guard, as one of the Knights Twelve. He had served with distinction for two years, before the events that began the Dragonsong War. King Thordan, influenced by the Ascians and driven by his paranoia regarding the dragons, devised a plan to grant himself and his knights the strength to defeat any dragon who would rise up against them. He lured the elder dragon Ratatoskr with talks of a peaceful alliance, then had his knights trap and slay her. The King and his men then consumed her flesh, thus gaining her strength and condemning the people of Ishgard for centuries to come.Returning home to his wife, Alistaire was eager to celebrate their success. It was in those celebrations that Prina came to be with child, the couple's first. Whatever joy that news brought would be short-lived, however.Learning of the betrayal, the elder dragon Nidhogg led his brood to attack the city of Ishgard. In the battles to follow, the Knights Twelve were shattered. Some defected in shame for what they had done, others died trying to protect the citizens of Ishgard, and the last died alongside their King, including Alistaire.

Faced with raising their unborn child alone while the city was under siege by a terrifying force, Lady Prina's mind began to slip. After her daughter was born, she became a recluse, leaving the child to be raised almost entirely by maids and nannies, while the Lady paced the halls of the estate like a phantom. The young Olivette was only sixteen years old when her mother finally passed away, finally finding some peace. Suddenly bearing the weight of a House and title, the girl tried her best to be what her mother should have been all along. Unfortunately, fate had other plans for her.In sorting through her parent's belongings, Olivette found her father's journal. Within, he had detailed his rise within the knighthood, right up to the very end. Disgusted and ashamed to have been born of such a travesty, the young girl lost her way. Broken by the weight of her position and the terrible legacy of her House, she made a final decision...

She would end the line of House Simoneaux.

History: Dragonsong

Overwhelmed by the shame of her family's part in the events that brought about the war, Vette came to a terrible decision: She would free herself of the pain and end the legacy of her House in one single action. After ensuring that the staff of her House were cared for, she sealed the estate and made her way through the city to one of the many outer bridges that passed between its districts. Climbing onto the railing, she stood and watched as they last rays of sunshine cut between the mountains in the distance. For a moment she was perfectly still, before finally taking a deep breath and letting her weight tip forward, dropping her into the long fall that would certainly end with her death.

But before that death could claim her, a pair of large talons closed around her and lifted her into the air. 'A more fitting end,' she thought as she went limp in the dragon's grasp, eventually succumbing to her exhaustion. When she woke, Vette found herself far away from the battles of Coerthas. The field where she was resting was peaceful, the morning sun warm on her face. She might have thought herself dead, were it not for the massive green dragon sitting nearby, watching her with a curious expression in his amber eyes.Through the moons that followed, woman and dragon learned to understand one another. The dragon was called Vahsk and he told her that he had saved her because he could feel her pain, it overwhelmed him and he could not bear to see her life end in such a state. He offered her a new life, one far away from the source of her pain, and she accepted. As time passed, Vahsk began to sense something else within her, a familiarity that he only shared with others of his kin. What he was sensing was the first traces of Ratatoskr's legacy within the blood of Elezen descended from the Knights Twelve - a legacy that would one day be a part of all children of Ishgard. With love blossoming between them, Vahsk offered a sharing of his blood, unsure if it would do anything at all, but hoping that it would imbue some of his power to the mortal woman and allow her longevity, so that they might spend eternity together. What it did was far more than he expected. Over the long years of their life together, sharing more and more of his blood with her caused Vette to become something else. She was able to take on the form of a dragon and came to spend most of her time this way. She joined with the others of Hraesvelgr's brood and was given the name Ahm-Al, the Song of Promise. For a thousand years, the pair lived a peaceful existence together, keeping carefully away from the troubles of the Dragonsong War.

History: Modern Day

After centuries together, Ahm-Al and Vahsk's time together came to an abrupt end.Just a few short years before the end of the Dragonsong War, Ahm-Al returned from a hunt to find her lover slain, clearly by the hand of a skilled dragoon. Sorrow and rage welled within her and she swore that she would find the one responsible and make them suffer as she now suffered.Spurred onward by her need for vengeance, she began her way towards the city that had once been her home, without any plan for how she would even begin to find the person she was looking for. In that wandering grief, she met the leader of a group of Heretics who were fighting to end the war. The man, Esredes Rosemond, gave her his word that he would help her find the one who took Vahsk's life, in exchange for her help with the war efforts. She agreed.Over those last years of war, Ahm-Al - now known as Sjahs, the Voice of Vengeance - became Esredes's left hand, a weapon capable of devastating levels of destruction. And though he used her for her brutal force, Esredes came to care for her as much more. In time, the two would bond and he would help her find a calm within the storm of her emotions.True to his word, Esredes found the man responsible for Vahsk's death and helped Vette take her vengeance against him. Though neither speaks of the events, it was then that their bond was sealed. After the war's end, Esredes and many of her heretic family decided to return to Ishgard, to try and rebuild lives for themselves in the home that they had lost. Vette, however, struggled with this decision. She had long since stopped considering herself an Ishgardian. Instead of returning with them, she turned for Dravania to try and reconnect with Hraesvelgr's brood and find herself.

What she found was an ache in her heart, for the loss of her mate and for the loss of the heretic family she had chosen for herself. After long months of struggling, she turned her sights on Ishgard, wanting to restore her bonds with those still living. In the time since her return, she has reconnected with Esredes, their bond strengthening further and his presence becoming a pillar of her life; She has reclaimed her family's title and fortune, determined to use the latter to help restore the city that her father helped to destroy; She has opened a mercantile business, importing goods from Dravania and trying to encourage relations between the city and the dragons whom she considers kin; And she takes work as Sjahs, a mercenary and dragon-for-hire for the right cause.

Her story continues to grow and she prays every day that she can live a life that Vahsk would be proud of.

The Heart's Companion

Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.
~Emily Brontë

Red Heretic. Commander of Iceheart's Forces. Traitor.Esredes has been known as many things, but to Vette there is only one that matters: Friend. From their first meeting, something sparked between the two and their companionship seemed almost inevitable.During the War, Vette was Esredes' left hand, a weapon of devastating power that he did not hesitate to use against their enemies. But he was ever aware of the fractured state of her heart and eventually endeavored to help her be more than her rage. In time, a bond formed between the two, their hearts bound by a force stronger than friendship or love. When the War ended, Vette took an extended sabbatical into Dravania, searching for answers about who she was and where she was meant to be. The separation caused a rift between the friends, each struggling to come to terms with the new reality of their lives while apart from each other.Realizing her mistake, however, Vette has since returned to Ishgard and sought out her companion, their bond renewing and strengthening, even as they seek to bridge the rift created by their time apart.

Xavierre
Chatelain

They slipped briskly into an intimacy from which they never recovered.
~F. Scott Fitzgerald

A friendship born over a conversation about hats, Vette was enamored by the tailor's quick wit and pleasant company.Taking a chance and trusting him with the truth she must hide, she found a man that was not just accepting of who she is, but truly appreciative of the differences others mostly fear. He sees her not just as one side of herself or the other, but as a whole, both woman and dragon at all times.Xavierre has become her shelter in the storm, a place where she can truly be herself -- and she in turn has become that for him. They each know that when the world comes crashing down around them, the other will be waiting for them with open arms.Over their time together, a deep bond has formed between the two, bringing them closer together than either thought possible. And now a recent, spur of the moment decision may change the course of both of their lives forever...

Dione
Averre

Being a mother is an attitude, not a biological relation.
~Robert A. Heinlein

Dione's place in Vette's life was secured the instant they first met - when the young harrier, sensing the elder dragon's pain, curled her small form up against her side to sleep. The bonding was immediate and Vette took the young woman under her wing, both literally and figuratively, adopting her as the daughter she could never have. With a similar bond formed to Esredes, the trio became a family, their souls forever connected to one another.During the war, they saw many battles and difficult days together, but always weathered them with the certainty that they had family waiting for them on the other side of every challenge. And when the war finally came to an end, Dione planted a tree at the highest point of the camp that had been their home, to symbolize the unbreakable bond between herself and her adopted parents.Though Dione has gone on to build a life of her own, that bond remains intact and Vette is proud of the strong and independant woman her daughter has become.

Victoriaux
Brisbois

Though their meeting was chance, once Vette learned of Victor's situation in life she felt compelled to act. Offering the carpenter a job on the crew restoring her dilapidated estate, she hoped to help him build a better future for himself.Over time, a bond of trust developed between the two and Vette has taken on a motherly role with the man, offering him someone with whom he can find comfort and advice.

She is one of few who remembers the era when man and dragon joined their hands in peace, and is revered as an elder by the others of their brood. Due to her father's reclusive nature, she often speaks for his brood.Over Vette's many years living amongst the dragons of Dravania, she and Vidofnir formed a lasting friendship. The elder lends a comforting ear and is a source of wise counsel.

Dragonkin

Are you a dragon, heretic, or ally? Did you spend anytime in Dravania during the war? Then you may know of the dragon Sjahs, one of Hraesvelgr's brood who fought on the side of Iceheart's heretics in an effort to end the war once and for all.

The Red Heretic

Vette can often be found in the company of her closest friend and companion, Esredes Rosemond. Do you know the man? You may get to know Vette as well.

The Mystery Viscountess

If you are highborn or spend time in their circles, you may have heard of the mysterious woman who was recently granted the title of Viscountess and an estate in the Pillars. Rumors say she was reclaiming what once belonged to her family, but the name Simoneaux does not appear in any recent records of the High Houses of Ishgard.

Dravanian Importer

Interested in getting in on the budding trade with Dravania while the novelty of dragon-related goods is at a peak? Then Vette is someone you should talk to. The woman seems to have a finger on the pulse of Dravanian imports, with connections there that other merchants just don't have yet.

Hobbyist Chef

In trying to find hobbies to occupy her time, Vette has discovered a love for all things cooking. You may have seen her helping out in the meal tents during the restoration of The Firmament. Or maybe you sampled a baked treat or two at Esredes's office. Or perhaps you simply ran into her at the market as she picks up ingredients for her next creation...

About the Player

Available Hours: 3pm-12am EST (Usually)As a roleplayer, I have more than twenty years of experience in everything from tabletop to MMOs. Several of my current RP campaigns have been running for five years or more, so if you want a long-term story, I'm in. I'm looking to build epic storylines with others who are interested in staying in it for the long haul. One shots, while fun, are not my primary focus. My roleplaying post style is full paragraph, but I will cut it down in situations where there are larger groups together. I am most comfortable in settings of no more than 2-3 players in addition to myself, but that being said, who doesn't love a party? Please don't ever feel afraid to approach, as I am almost always ready to slip In Character.I am an adult player and dark/mature themes are not out of the question, should they fit my characters and their storylines. Romantic relationships are also an open possibility, but again, it's based on what is appropriate for my characters and their personalities.I am also a lore adherent roleplayer. I roleplay in FFXIV because I love the rich story and deep lore of the setting. I have spent long hours researching my characters, most especially Vette, and I ask that those who wish to write with me stay true to the lore as well. Bending the lore a bit to add flourish to a story is fine, breaking it is not. I have nothing against those who wish to roleplay races and creatures from other games transplanted onto Eorzea, but I am looking to keep my own connections within the lore.
